Meetings, Activities, and Administrivia
Scouting offers various meetings and activities. Meetings promote patrol spirit and keep scouts motivated. Meetings are a good time for scouts to learn and practice scout skills and work on the requirements leading to First Class. The meetings also provide the boys with the opportunity to exercise leadership and plan troop or patrol activities. This chapter introduces the common on-going events. Campouts, high adventure, and special events are covered in later chapters.
At scouting activities, a scout group's attention is often silently communicated with a ``signs up''. This is the official scout sign (right arm at 90 degree angle with three fingers up) held at front of a group; as others see it they quietly and quickly come to attention and also hold up the sign.
