Earning the Eagle
The Eagle Scout Rank is often seen as the final visible, tangible goal of scouting. The earlier ranks are stepping stones in both experiences and actual requirements to earning the Eagle. It basically requires the same standard requirements as the other ranks, but also includes various paperwork and the Eagle project which is a boy-planned and boy-led service project of substantial benefit.
These final steps may be complex, but hopefully this chapter can lead you through this maze. This chapter discusses the key Eagle requirements, the Eagle project and paperwork, completing the Eagle application, the Eagle Board of Review, the special Court of Honor, and continuing after the Eagle is awarded.
The scout does not need to wait until the merit badges requirement is completed to begin planning his Eagle project. (See chapter [Merit Badges] for details on the merit badge requirements.) The project planning may begin as soon as the scout passes his Life rank Board of Review. (Make sure that date is recorded.) But the actual project work cannot begin until it is approved multiple times.
